Ocean release: 8-minute guided meditation

Close your eyes.

Imagine you are walking barefoot on a beach at sunset. Warm grains of sand caress your feet, and you feel the gentle heat of the setting sun on your face and body. You approach the primordial ocean, listening to its graceful song, watching its rhythmic dance. The ocean touches your toes as it washes it, then flows out in a rhythmic dance. 

Listen. You breathe in the invigorating scent of the sea. Take a deep breath, in… and out. Breath in…. and out. Breathe in, breathe out. Breathe in, breathe out. 

You are one with the ocean. Breathe in as waves crashes on the shore. Breathe out as the water flows away.

Now, look within. As the ocean swells, look deep within your heart. 

What doubts and fears are hiding there? What doubt or fear is rising to the surface? Do you feel it? Is it a sadness or anxious feeling? Is it a fear of losing yourself? A fear that you aren’t good enough? That you’re falling behind? That you aren’t where you want to be? That you are unloved? Imperfect? Full of self-doubt? 

How does it serve you, this feeling? Does it wash in and out of your consciousness… like the ocean? Does it hold you back from peace and compassion, love and joy? How does it serve you?

If it no longer serves you, then, maybe it’s time… to let go. 

Look out over the ocean. The water stirs, and someone, a beautiful woman, begins to emerge from the ocean and walk towards the shore. She walks towards you. She stops a few feet in front of you. She cups her hands and raises them toward your heart, inviting you to release your doubt, your fear, that feeling you hold inside that troubles you today. She invites you to release it into her hands. 

Give her your doubt, your fear, your trouble. Release it from your heart, into her hands. Take a deep breath, and release… Release.

Like a small dim light, your doubt, your fear, your worry floats from your heart onto her palms. She encloses it tightly in her hands and smiles at you. Feel the warmth of her smile. 

She walks back into the primordial ocean, cupping that which no longer serves you, and when the water reaches waist height, she lowers her hands and releases the dim light into the salty sea. The dim light spreads into the primordial ocean… and dissolves into nothingness. 

Take a deep breath and notice your light. Your heart feels lighter. The heaviness is gone. 

Across the ocean, the setting sun casts a rainbow of colour. The woman sinks into the waves and disappears. Once again, you are alone. The gentle waves wash over your feet, caressing your toes. 

Rest. Rest here for a while. Return whenever you’re ready.
